Workshopping a Future in Drama
Careers in Drama: Why should you study this?
Drama is just as important as other subjects, like English and Math. Ms. Weatherley, a drama teacher, had said that “When we think about ideas such as literacy and numeracy, you still need ways to communicate with others in the workforce. Particularly when you are running a business, or you work in retail, or anything like that. You need human-to-human skills.”
Not only that, it also provides students a creative outlet, like with Hannah, a Year 8 student, when asked about why she is interested in drama. “You get to be yourself, but then also someone totally different.” The subject provides a break from the more difficult core subjects, trains your emotional intelligence and creative thinking, and gives students more time to interact with other people and ideas and build that self-confidence that so many people need.
“It’s more inclusive,” said Jacob, a Year 8 student, in relation to his experience about drama. “Like everyone has an equal part. It’s a good way to start school. You also get to make some new friends, like how it has helped me.”

Though not many students know about this, and that’s why they should be more exposed to these careers. It opens a whole new venue of career choices for these students, and one of them could be a kid’s dream job.
